Welcome to the Weathervane Music Blog! My name is Brian McTear. I am a producer, engineer and musician in Philadelphia. I also own and operate a recording studio called Miner Street Recordings in my neighborhood, Fishtown, where I and many others have made great recordings over the years. Over the past several years I have been working with a small group of friends on a non-profit music organization called Weathervane Music Organization.

Weathervane Music is working to establish a non-profit funded, independent music awards program and documentary video series. A select group of participants will be chosen by our selection committee, headed up each year by a different well known, distinguished guest curator. Artists will be selected based on the quality and sophistication of their work, as well as their ability to participate fully in the many details of our program. Those chosen will be awarded the opportunity to produce recordings in a great studio, paired up with a great producer, and all the exposure and promotional capital that will come from this prestigious program.

In our startup years, we’ll be working out of Miner Street, as it’s a great, highly equipped facility with living accommodations and a great all around vibe. Projects will be produced by a changing cast of producers and engineers, mostly from Philadelphia in the beginning, though the intention is to include independent artists and producers from as far and wide around the globe as we can.
